Project description: This Consultancy is expected to design agroforestry model to be eventually implemented in 6 selected LGAs namely: Onyiyogo Forest Reseve in Oju LGA, Agricultural Training School, Otobi in Otukpo LGA, Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University Makurdi in Makurdi LGA, Mbako Forest Reserve, in Vandeikya LGA, Mbawa I Forest Reserve, Gboko and Livestock Investigation and Breeding Centre Raav, Aondona in Gwer-West LGA of Benue State. The agro-forestry models will be practiced in both rainfed and irrigated conditions for the production of food, fodder, fuel, timber, organic fertilizer and fibre, for food, nutritional and ecological security, pastoral farming, livelihood sustenance, poverty alleviation and promotion of productive and resilient cropping and farming environments.

Project: Needs Assessment for Efficient Energy Cooking Sources, Solar Powered Boreholes and Solar Powered Irrigation Pumps for Distribution and Use in Communities (Apa, Otukpo, Makurdi, Gboko, Logo and Vandeikya Local Government Areas of Benue State

Achievements: Sensitization of LGA Council Officials, Traditional Rulers, Community members, NGOs/CSOs, Women & Youths groups in project communities (6 LGAs);  Baseline survey in 120 communities (20 communities/LGA x 6 LGAs); Identification and analysis of the barriers that hinder the successful deployment usage and diffusion of the prioritized technologies in 120 communities; Mapping/ Geo-referencing/Geo-tagging of water sources in 6 LGAs; Identification and mapping (Geo-referencing/Geo-tagging) of existing irrigation practices/schemes and irrigation potentials of communities in 24 sites (4 sites/LGA); Detailed specifications of the technologies for sustainable energy cooking sources, solar powered boreholes and solar irrigation pumps most suitable for the communities; Design of six (6) Solar Powered Boreholes and Irrigation Schemes (with solar powered irrigation pumps) in 6 Local Government Area; Geophysical surveys for boreholes in 24 sites; Risk Assessment plan; Cost estimates and specifications of sustainable energy cooking sources, solar powered boreholes and solar irrigation pumps most suitable for the communities; Prioritized mitigation and adaptation technologies for sustainable energy cooking sources, solar powered boreholes and irrigation pumps for the communities; Cost-Benefit Analysis of use of these sustainable energy/technologies; Concept Notes/Action Plans for implementation of sustainable technologies in 120 communities in 6 LGAs; Sensitization workshops to demonstrate workability of sustainable energy sources (wood efficient cookstoves & solar powered irrigation pumps) in six (6) selected communities.

Project: Building Nigeria Response to Climate change (BNRCC) pilot project in Daudu (Guinea savannah) of Benue State and Falgore (Sudan savannah) of Kano State of Nigeria.

Donor: CIDA with support from the project managers; NEST/CUSO-VSO/MARBEK. Project value:N15.7 million

Achievements: The project enhanced resilience to climate change vulnerabilities of rural farmers (530), women (413) and youth (300) in project communities. Two (2) degraded Wetland areas were rehabilitated with enrichment planting of 150 Khaya senegalensis trees and natural regeneration of indigenous tree species.

Project cycle: 2009 to 2012

Project: Evidences and Lessons from Latin America(ELLA), Learning to Practice Awardfor rural farmers in Udam Community and Urban Dwellers in North Bank community of Makurdi in Benue State.

Donor: Practical Action Consulting UK and DFID, Project Value: N3.6 million

Achievements: 200 rural farmers and 100 urban dwellers reached with Climate Change Resilience Building activities.

Project cycle: November 2013-July 2014.

Project: Water Hygiene and Sanitation in Nigeria (WASH) Project: Training of Trainers for community WASH project leaders and promotion of Community Led Total Sanitation in Tarka and Konshisha LGAs of Benue State.

Donor: Benue State Government and UNICEF.Project value:  N4.5million

Achievements: 610 WASH communities in trained on Community management systemsProject Cycle: 2014-2015.

Project: Climate Change/ Waste Management enlightenment program for Tertiary Institutions, Secondary Schools and Community members in Benue State.

Donor: Greenwatch Initiative; project Value: N867,000

Achievement: 125 Students trained, 15 Live Radio programs Aired on Radio Benue, 3 Television Shows hosted on NTA Makurdi.

Project: World Environment Day (WED) Celebrations with Federal University of Agriculture Makurdi

Donor: Greenwatch Initiative/Forestry Association of Nigeria (FAN) Benue Chapter and FUAM. Project Value: N3.7million

Achievements: 12500 Trees planted in FUAM Arboretum, 4 rallies, 4 WED Lectures and Media campaigns organized for staff and students of FUAM in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019.

Project Cycle: On-going

Project: ENCAP/USAID; Enhancing Nigerian Capacity for AIDS Prevention. Beneficiaries: MOSY, FOSY, Non brothel based FSWs, Transport Workers and OVC.

Donor: USAID, Project value: N13.5million

Locations: Guma and Gwer East LGAs of Benue State

Achievements:

  • 57 PEs trained ( 12 TWs and 45 NBBFSWs)
  • 1572 NBBFSWs and 538 TWs reached with MPPI
  • Achieved all target for HTS-3560 NBBFSWs and 1200TWs).

Project Cycle: 2011-2014.

 Project: HIV/AIDS Fund (HAF 2).

Beneficiaries: PWID, OSY, OVC

Donor: World Bank, Project value: N7.2 million

Locations: Gboko, Ushongo, Makurdi and Gwer East LGA of Benue State.

Achievements:

  • Successful implementation of intensive OSY, TWs, NBBFSW and PWID MPPPI strategy to increase referral and linage to HIV and STI related services.
  • Provided for beneficiaries-15000 OSY with HIV prevention services, HTS, identified and placed 207 OSYs on treatment.
  • Trained 60 peer educators on HIV/AIDS prevention
  • Achieved all targets (HIV testing-15000, clients for treatment 207, MPPI-15000).

Project Cycle: 2014-2015.

Project: Comprehensive Integrated Approaches to HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control in Nigeria (CIHPAC).

Beneficiaries: MOSY, FOSY, TWs and Security Officers.

Donor: SFH/USAID, Project Value: N15.7million

Location: Daudu, Guma LGA in Benue State.

Achievements:

  • 476 PEs trained (223 FOSY and 253 MOSY)
  • 5100 peers reached with HIV prevention services

Project cycle: 2009-2010.

Project: Promoting Micro Credits (Promic) for Small Holder Rural Women: a micro credit scheme (Promic) for small holder rural women (especially women) to enhance household income.

Donor: Foundation Open Hand Swisshand,Switzerland, Project value: N5.9 million

Achievement: 1560 beneficiaries have accessed revolving soft loans and training in Income Generating Activities/small business management.

Project Cycle: 2016- date (ongoing/revolving)

Project monitoring tools are in place to ensure proper tracking of project outputs. Project evaluation is done at end and mid project terms to assess successes and address gaps. A quality assurance system is in place to enhance efficiency and effective of service.

 

Greenwatch operates a transparent accounting process to service programs and organizational activities in line with best accounting procedures and financial policy. This has justified donor confidence and value for services rendered to the communities. Greenwatch is registered with the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) with Corporate TIN: 24030885.

All program staff has been trained in their core operating areas both locally and internationally. Greenwatch has benefitted from capacity building programs of SFH, ENCAP, BNRCC, BENSACA, NEST, CIDA, CDC, USAID, DELLOITTES, FHI 360, UNDP etc which has enriched our capacity in organizational management, leadership and governance, finance & administration, M&E, resource mobilization, project design and management, Social Analysis Systems (SAS2), Facilitation, Reporting and Documentation, MPPI, SASA, behavior change, ICT etc.
